Education Assistance: Grant-In-Aid & Continuing Education Discount

Grant-In-Aid

The following employees are eligible for education assistance through the UNLV Grant-In-Aid Program: Classified Staff Members, Academic Faculty, Professional Staff, Temporary Letter of Appointments/Letter of Appointments with Benefits, and Postdoctoral Scholars. Education assistance varies by employee type.

Grant-In-Aid Application Due Date For Those Attending UNLV

Spring: December 31, 2009

If you submit a Grant-In-Aid application after the due date, please pay for the tuition and fees in full to avoid late fees, and a refund check will be sent to you once the Grant-In-Aid application has been processed.

Grant-In-Aid Application Due Date For Those Attending Other NSHE Institutions

Five business days before the tuition due date at that particular campus.

If you submit a Grant-In-Aid application after the due date, please pay for the tuition and fees in full to avoid late fees, and a refund check will be sent to you once the Grant-In-Aid application has been processed.

Waiting Period

The employees indicated above are eligible for Grant-In-Aid immediately. There is no waiting period.

Tax Implications

Employee Grant-In-Aid for undergraduate courses is not considered taxable income. Employee Grant-In-Aid in excess of $5,250 for graduate courses is considered taxable income.

Dependent and Spouse Grant-In-Aid for undergraduate courses is not considered taxable income. Dependent and spouse Grant-In-Aid for graduate level courses is considered taxable income to the employee.

Taxes are reported twice a year. For additional information, please consult your tax advisor.

Continuing Education Discount

Classified Employees

All full-time Classified employees (100% FTE) are entitled to a 50% discount on most of the non-credit Continuing Education courses. There is no limit on the number of courses that a Classified employee may take. An application must be completed for each non-credit Continuing Education course, and the form must be signed by a Human Resource Representative. The form is presented to the Continuing Education office when you go to pay for classes. Applications may be downloaded below or obtained from the Human Resources Office. Faculty and Professional Staff

All full-time (100% FTE) academic faculty and professional staff members and their spouses are entitled to a 50% discount on most of the non-credit Continuing Education courses. There is no limit on the number of courses that an academic faculty/professional staff member or spouse may take. There is no application for this program. The academic faculty or professional staff member will need to present his/her UNLV RebelCard to the Continuing Education Office when paying for the course.
