UNLV Employee Benefit Highlights

- No State Income Tax
- No Social Security Deduction . Since UNLV is a state entity that has a mandatory retirement plan for its employees, you do not pay into social security. However, if you worked at other jobs that you may qualify for social security benefits, your social security benefit may be reduced under Social Security's Windfall Elimination Provision.
- Medicare Contribution required (1.45%).
- A Defined Contribution (401A) retirement plan through the Retirement Plan Alternative (RPA) program with options for pre-tax investments through TIAA-CREF, AIG-VALIC, and/or Fidelity Investments. Multiple companies may be used, however a 25% enrollment is required for each that you choose.
- 10.5% Retirement Plan Alternative deduction is mandated and UNLV matches this with an employer paid 10.5% contribution.
- Supplemental Retirement plans available which allows you to invest additional monies towards your retirement on a pre-tax basis. Employees can put away as much as $18,000.00 to either a Tax Sheltered Annuity account (403B) or a Deferred Compensation (457) or to both.
- Health Insurance, including Vision and Dental, is available for a nominal fee. PPO and HMO options available. Coverage for spouse and dependents is available in either pre-tax (Section 125 Benefit) or post-tax option.
- $20,000 Basic Life Insurance, $2,000 Spouse Basic Life Insurance, $2,000 Dependent Basic Life Insurance, $20,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, $50,000 Business Accident Insurance and Long Term Disability Insurances are paid by the employer for the employee.
- Optional Insurance Coverage such as Supplemental Life, Personal Accident, Short-term Disability Income Protection, Cancer Care and Automobile/Homeowner's Insurance are available.
- 11 Paid Holidays including: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Nevada Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, Family Day and Christmas Day.
- 2 days of Sick Leave per month can be accrued to a maximum of 96 days.
- 2 days of Annual Leave per month can be accrued to a maximum of 48 days (Academic Faculty Contracts excluded).
- Grant-in-Aid Benefits for employee, spouse and children. Professional employees and their dependents may be eligible to take courses at any of the institutions within the University and Community College System of Nevada at a discounted rate.
