Classified Leave
Annual Leave
- Full -time Classified Staff will earn 10 hours of annual (vacation) leave for each month of continuous full-time service. NRS 284.350
- After six months of full-time service you are eligible to use leave. Your appointing authority must approve annual leave. NAC 284.539
- If you are a part-time employee, you will earn a pro-rated amount of annual leave based on full-time equivalent service.
- Annual (vacation) accrual rate is based on the years of service NAC 284.538

- Annual leave that is accrued in excess of 240 hours must be used on or before January 1 or it is forfeited.
- To avoid forfeiture, a request for permission to take annual leave must be submitted to your supervisor by October 15.
- If an employee requested leave before October 15 and was denied, the employee will be paid for annual leave in excess of 240 hours.
- If you separate from State service and have worked at least six months, you will be paid for any unused annual leave you have accrued. NAC 284.5395
Sick Leave
- Full-time classified employees accumulate 10 hours sick leave per month. NAC 284.355
- If you are a Part-time classified employee you will earn a pro-rated sick leave based on full-time equivalent service.
- After an employee has accumulated 720 hours of sick leave, the amount of additional unused sick leave will be carry forward from one year to the next, limited to one half of the unused sick leave accrued during that year. Sick leave banking takes place in December of each year.
- Sick leave may be used immediately after it is earned.
- Sick leave may be approved when it is determined that the absence was for an authorized reason.
- An employee is entitles to use sick leave only when: unable to perform the duties of the position because of illness, injury, or physically incapacitated due to a medical condition, incapacity due to pregnancy or child birth, for medical, optometrist or dental services and family illness or death or other authorized medical needs in the immediate family that complies with the State regulations on Family Sick or Family Death leave.
