EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) provides employees with easy and confidential access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Employees are encouraged to access this referral service for assistance in dealing with personal or work related difficulties.
The EAP, a confidential assessment and referral program, is accessible by telephone twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. UNLV provides up to four sessions of EAP services per calendar year at no cost to the employee.
Ceridian Lifeworks
UNLV has entered into a contract with Ceridian Lifeworks to provide EAP services. Ceridian is an offsite healthcare organization staffed with licensed and certified professional counselors dedicated to employee assistance.
Initial Contact, Assessment and Referral
When you call the twenty four-hour hotline, you will be able to discuss your concern directly with an EAP Counselor. The Counselor can offer an initial plan of action designed to resolve the problem or identify the next steps to take.
Sometimes brief counseling (one to three sessions) with an EAP Counselor is sufficient to resolve the problem. At other times, services of other professionals in the community may be required. EAP Counselors will be able to make referrals to counselors and programs whose expertise matches the assessed problem and whose approach and personality are well suited to a particular event.
The EAP Provider also maintains a robust website where access to information on topics such as depression, stress, child rearing and eldercare is available.
What is the Cost?
The first three sessions with an EAP Counselor are provided at no cost to an employee. In the event that extended counseling or treatment is agreed upon between the employee and the EAP Counselor, the costs for such treatment will be subject to the terms of the employees health insurance program. The EAP Counselor will make referrals to the appropriate insurance plan provider.
What types of problems are appropriate for the EAP?
Employees may contact an EAP Counselor to discuss emotional or personal conflicts, grief and loss issues, anxiety and depression, marital conflict, for answers and information about alcohol and substance abuse, parenting concerns, family blending issues, information and guidance on managing stress and change, gambling problems and/or work performance issues.
