UNIVERSITY MANDATORY RETIREMENT PLANS

All UNLV employees participate in a mandatory retirement plan. Employees are mandated to either the NSHE Retirement Plan Alternative(RPA), the Nevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), or the NSHE FICA Alternative plan depending on your employee type.

Professional employees (exempt employees)who are employed at least 50% full time are mandated to participate in the NSHE RPA plan unless they are active members of NV PERS. The RPA plan is a defined contribution plan

Classified employees are mandated to participate in the NV PERS system.

Part time, seasonal, and temporary employees participate in the FICA Alternative Plan.

UNLV employees do not contribute to social security. As a result, employees who qualify to receive social security benefits and also receiving retirement income from the university may see a reduction in their social security benefits. This is called the Windfall Elimination Provision. Please contact social security directly at 1-800-772-1213 for more information.
