A subcommittee is being formed to determine if National CUPA has codified any restrictions on local CUPA membership based on National membership -- if not, the subcommittee will be revisiting this clause in our current bylaws. We will be meeting again by video conference on June 7th at 11:00 am. On the agenda will be a discussion and vote on revising the current Bylaws AND voting in a new set of executive officers.
Three issues need to be addressed. The first is noted in the minutes but needs some follow up. Next week, a directory of individuals currently on the newly developed NV CUPA Home Page will be distributed to each campus (our solution to a mutual directory). Please survey the individuals employed by your institution who are on the list to determine if they wish to be removed. Let Larry Hamilton know the results. Larry's work phone and email address are on the list (convenient huh!).
Second; Institutions noted in the minutes will receive a billing for this years dues -- on that billing will be a space to provide the organization with name of the official institutional representative authorized to cast votes in the organization. Please remember to provide the name of that individual or her/his designee.
Third; Susan Carkeek has requested that NV CUPA consider sponsoring a professional development seminar on the technicalities of processing foreign nationals and I-9 issues (Susan, please correct me if I misrepresented the subject matter). This program would be handled similar to the one previously (and quite successfully) sponsored by the organization. Look for more information on this in the near future.
II. Introductions showed the following individuals to be present at the meeting :
Jim German, NV CUPA President, UNLV
Larry Hamilton, NV CUPA Program Coordinator, UNLV
Debra Olson, NV CUPA President-Elect, BCN
Diana DeSimone, BCN

III. President German reported that the billing of chapter dues for NV CUPA member institutes had not occurred for the current membership year of July 01, 1995 through June 30, 1996. In accordance with the NV CUPA by-laws, bills will be sent to National CUPA Institutional Members. These institutions include:
Community College of Southern Nevada
Truckee Meadows Community College
University and Community College System of Nevada
University of Nevada Las Vegas
University of Nevada Reno
The mailing of these billings should occur by the end of the week. Mailing will be handled by Diane Fruth, the NV CUPA Secretary /Treasurer.
Sierra Nevada College - Lake Tahoe is also a member of National CUPA. It is agreed that they should be extended an invitation to join the local chapter.
IV. A proposed version of changes to the NV CUPA by-laws was briefly discussed. A sub-committee was formed to examine these changes and propose others as necessary. Debra Olson and Larry Hamilton are members of this sub-committee. The sub-committee will forward any proposed by-laws changes to the membership prior to the next meeting of NV CUPA, these proposed by-laws changes will be included on the agenda of the June 7 NV CUPA meeting.
V. According to the NV CUPA by-laws, Past President Thomas Brown is to be the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee for 1996-1997 Officers of the NV CUPA Chapter. President German appointed Debra Olson and Jeanette Hirose to also serve on the nominating committee. The work of this committee will be presented at the June 7 NV CUPA meeting. The committee nominees, along with any nominations from the floor will be voted upon at the June 7 NV CUPA meeting.
VI. The next meeting of the NV CUPA Chapter will be on June 7, 1996 at 11:00 a.m.
VII. The NV CUPA Home Page was discussed. Everyone was encouraged to review the NV CUPA Home Page and to forward comments/recommendations to Larry Hamilton. The Home Page is located at http://www.unlv.edu/Human_Resources/NV_CUPA/ (address is "case sensitive") The five pages that comprise the web site were highlighted. Those pages include :
Officers Page (with e-mail links)
Institutional Membership Page (with web site links)
Individual Membership Page (with e-mail links)
Professional Development Page (with web site links)
Constitution and By-laws Page
Discussion took place with regards to the inclusion of individuals, their campus phone numbers and fax numbers, their titles, their e-mail addresses, and job responsibilities. A printed copy of the web pages will be forwarded to each voting member of NV CUPA with a request that they identify any individual that desires their information be removed from the page.
Larry Hamilton committed to the continued maintenance of the pages.
Printed copies of the Individual Membership pages will be sent out with each dues billing so that the information can be verified, updated, and/or corrected.
VIII. Discussion took place with regards to the recent call for Regional Award nominations. The deadline for nominations for these awards was February 16. The Southwest Region will be contacted to request an extension, at least for the Road Runner Award. President German will also be sending out an e-mail message to the voting membership to request nominations for that award. Diane Desimone stated that each CUPA Chapter is able to award the Road Runner each year. She emphasized the positive aspect of rewarding one of our own at the regional level.
IX. The combined Southwest and South Regional Conference on March 31 through April 3 in New Orleans was discussed. Diane Desimone will be attending the conference and volunteered to act as the NV CUPA liaison. Discussion ensued about the possibility of the NV CUPA Chapter paying for the registration fee for a member that might not otherwise be able to attend. Given the fact that the Regional Conference is so close (it will be held in October in San Diego), this idea generated a good deal of interest, especially since the National CUPA Convention is the 50th Anniversary Convention. Diane Desimone moved, and Larry Hamilton seconded -- that the NV CUPA Chapter will assist an individual to attend the National Convention. Motioned passed with an all in favor. Details will be worked out at a later meeting when we can make specific recommendations related to funds available at the time.
X. Meeting Adjourned at 12:14.
Addendum: March 29, 1996
Item: III. Jim German will compose a letter to Sierra Nevada College - Lake Tahoe, informing them of the existence of the NV CUPA Chapter and inviting them to attend the June 7th meeting.
Item: VIII. CUPA did extend the deadline to March 1st for submitting a nominee from the NV CUPA Chapter for the Roadrunner Award. Voting representatives were solicited for recommendations. A number of individuals were recommended as being worthy of the award which recognizes an HR professional who is a positive role model and has made significant contributions to the profession and CUPA. Each of the individuals recomended for the award were well qualified for recognition. Based on recommendations received from instituion representatives, the name of the individual recommended most frequently was submitted to CUPA. The NV CUPA Roadrunner award winner will be announced at the Southern-Southwest Regional Conference.
