The meeting was called to order at 1:25 by current president, Debra Olson. Debra introduced the new officers for 1996-1997:

Jim German moved to approve the minutes of the June 7, 1996 meeting. Robin Freestone seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Robin Freestone asked for suggestions on what subjects members would like to see addressed in a future program and recommendations for scheduling.

Jim German indicated that he would like to see something in relation to the interaction of ADA, FMLA, and Worker's Compensation.

Diana recommended that perhaps there could be two half day sessions and would be interested in some mediation presentations. She was especially interested in beginning a process to accommodate the certification of internal facilitators that would enable the System to limit the use of outside sources.

Jim German suggested a presentation involving Salary models and Equity Issues if there were to be multiple topics.

Keith Perreault offered Internal Investigations and Alternate Dispute Resolution for consideration.

Jim German submitted benefits compliance issues (in relation to IRS audits) as a topic. Robin will check with Pam Cross to see if there is a TIAA/CREF representative who would be available to address this topic.

Robin indicated that she was impressed with the Ethical & Moral Issues in Higher Ed. presentation at the Southwest Cupa conference in Las Vegas.

Discussion followed in relation to where to get presenters. Dorothy Wysocki was mentioned as a resource for mediation. Continuing Education was recommended as a resource.

Diana DeSimone mentioned that if we were to approach a CUPA member who could present the decided topic, that there would be a possibility having the speaker subsidized and Nevada Cupa would only be responsible for travel and expenses.

Debra Olson suggested that we make an effort to include other regional agencies to defray costs. The Sacramento area was mentioned.

After some discussion, members decided the topics would be presented in the North (Reno) and preferably in January or February of '97.

Volunteering for the committee to assist in planning were:

Robin will schedule the committee meetings to work on the program.

The update from the subcommittee on membership issues was postponed until Larry Hamilton could be present.

Jim German reported that the communication with Sierra College will go out within the next two weeks.

Diana DeSimone moved to adjourn. Robin Freestone seconded. Meeting adjourned 3:30.
