Resignation Steps for Professional Staff and Academic Faculty

1. Employee should write a letter to his/her supervisor indicating the desired last day of employment with the University.

2. Supervisor should acknowledge the resignation in writing. The acceptance correspondence must be signed and dated by the supervisor. The resignation can be acknowledged by simply writing "accepted" on the employee’s letter or by separate correspondence to the employee.

3. Additional correspondence to the employee should be considered if the supervisor desires to direct the employee to use accrued annual leave prior to his/her resignation date. Per Title 4, Chapter 3, Section 13.5 of the Board of Regents Handbook, the supervisor would need to direct the employee, in writing, to use all or a portion of the accumulated leave prior to the final date of employment.

4. Copies of all supervisor correspondence described above should be faxed to Antonio knight in Human Resources so that the UNLV Clearance Process can be planned. The fax number at Human Resources is (702) 895-1545.

NOTE: Please remember that the employee leave file will need to be routed to Human Resources so that a final audit of leave balances can be done. This audit will verify the amount of payment of any unused annual leave.
