Filing Complaints of Discrimination and Sexual Harassment

Individuals who believe that they are victims of discrimination, including sexual harassment, should notify their supervisors immediately or contact the Office of the Vice President for Planning/EEO Officer at 895-4387.

Students, prospective students, employees and applicants are protected from intimidation, coercion, interference, or discrimination for filing complaints or assisting in the investigation of a complaint under all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including:

All supervisors and managers of State of Nevada classified employees are required to complete the "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" course within six months of assuming supervisory duties. The training is scheduled regularly through the Office of Staff Development. You may call this office at 895-0402 if you would like to arrange for a special training session.

Supervisors must take immediate steps to end situations of discrimination and sexual harassment when it is brought to their attention. Advice and assistance is available from the Office of the Vice President for Planning.

As a recipient of federal funding, UNLV is required to maintain a comprehensive and current Affirmative Action Plan. The Affirmative Action Plan will be monitored on a continuous basis and modified as necessary, in compliance with federal law. This strategic planning document will guide the success of diversity initiatives for the campus community. It is available for review at the Office of Human Resources by any student, prospective student, employee or applicant for employment between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
 
 

The Office of the Vice President for Planning is the "front door" for all complaints of discrimination. If after conducting an investigation of the charges disciplinary action is warranted, the case is referred to the appropriate administrative officer for disciplinary action: 
  • Disciplinary actions against faculty of professional staff members: Administrative Code Officer, Office of General Counsel
  • Disciplinary actions involving classified staff members: Hilary Bockstanz, Director, Staff Development & Employee Relations.
  • Disciplinary actions against students: Philip Burns, Senior Student Conduct Officer.
Investigations involving complaints of sexual harassment may be handled by any one listed below, depending on the job group and/or student classification of the individual charged in the complaint, i.e., 
  • Complaints against faculty, professional staff, classified staff and students: Juanita Fain, Vice President for Planning, EEO Officer.
