Starting a new job can be both exciting and confusing as you try to adjust to your new work environment. Here are some tips for a successful transition.
- Fill Out Required Hiring Paperwork
During your first days at UNLV, you will need to complete, sign, and submit paperwork, including your employment contract, the sexual harassment policy, and the constitutional oath (for teaching faculty only). Talk with your supervisor about what is required and how to submit your paperwork.
- Register for Benefits Enrollment Class
All new employees are required to attend the new hire benefits enrollment class. During the class, you will be able to enroll in the university’s health and retirement plans. Your department will schedule your class or you may call 895-1374 to schedule a time.
- Complete Forms to Receive Your Paycheck
Complete forms necessary for you to receive your paycheck, including I-9 and W-2. Employees receive paychecks based on their classification:
| Classification |
Paycheck(s) |
| Faculty/professional staff |
First business day of the month immediately following the month in which the salary was earned |

- Obtain Your Rebel ID Card
Get your UNLV Rebel ID card during your first week on campus. The Rebel ID card serves as your official university identification card and can be used to purchase parking permits, receive discounts, check out books, and more.
To obtain your card, bring a copy of your employment contract and valid photo ID to the Rebel ID Office located in the Student Union. Your photo will be taken and you will receive your card the same day. For additional information, contact the RebelCard office at 895-2351.
- Purchase Your Parking Permit
A permit is required to park on the UNLV campus. The parking and transportation services department has information on permit costs, where to park, and online permit purchasing.
- Learn More About UNLV
New faculty and professional staff can learn about university policies, departments, and services during new employee orientation.
- Get Familiar With the Campus
Every building on campus is assigned a three-letter abbreviation. For example, the Campus Services Building is abbreviated “CSB.” Usually you can find the name of the facility along with its abbreviation located on the outside of each building. You can familiarize yourself with campus by downloading a map or taking a tour.
- Enjoy On-Campus Conveniences
Enjoy a host of on-campus conveniences, including a bank, bookstore, convenience store, food court, recreation center, and coffee shops. Many of these amenities are located in the Student Union.
