Send Regret Letters
A letter should be sent to all candidates that are no longer under
consideration. The committee may wish to consider some of the
candidates on the short list further if the finalists do not work out
or decline an offer. Rather than eliminate those individuals completely,
the committee could retain their names on a second group list and
postpone sending out their regret letters. However, once a finalist is
selected from the first group and accepts the position, regret letters
must be sent to those individuals in the second group.
